Alessandro Sbrizzi appointed professor!

July 17, 2026

We are thrilled to announce that our group co-leader, Alessandro Sbrizzi, has been appointed Full Professor of Computational Methods for Diagnostic and Therapeutic Imaging at UMC Utrecht, effective July 15, 2026.

This new chair highlights the vital role of combining mathematics, physics, and AI to revolutionize patient care. Alessandro’s research focuses on bringing advanced computational models straight to the hospital floor, driving key CIG innovations:

Alessandro’s unique path, transitioning from a tenured career as a professional classical organist to studying mathematics at age 30, perfectly reflects the interdisciplinary creativity at the heart of our group.

Alongside Prof. Nico van den Berg, Alessandro will continue to lead the Computational Imaging Group, push the boundaries of fast, quantitative imaging, and train the next generation of researchers.

Please join us in warmly congratulating Alessandro!
