The Dutch Research Council (NWO) awarded a Veni grant to 8 highly promising young scientists of UMC Utrecht. The grant provides the laureates with the opportunity to further elaborate their own ideas during a period of three years.
Maarten Terpstra from the Computational Imaging Group is one of them. In his project “Beyond the pixel: high-resolution MRI using geometry-informed explicit representation learning” Maarten will develop a new MRI methodology to reconstruct images with high resolution by using novel AI techniques to work around the resolution limits of pixel-based imaging. Instead, these AI techniques will learn to shape the imaging to the anatomy instead of the other way around. This will make small structures visible and help clinicians to spot diseases as early as possible.
