Bart Steensma studied Biomedical Engineering at the University of Twente from 2009 to 2015. After working on magnetic detection of iron nanoparticles for breast cancer diagnosis (University of Twente) and material design for retinal implants (Bionics Institute, Melbourne), he did his Master thesis at the University Medical Utrecht on a novel antenna design for 7 Tesla MRI of the prostate.

Bart started his PhD in 2015, in the ultra-high field group of University Medical Center Utrecht. Bart did research on optimizing RF antennas for 7 Tesla MRI of the body, to achieve better imaging performance and lower risk of RF heating. In 2017, Bart was a visiting scholar at the Center of Magnetic Resonance Research in Minneapolis, where he designed a novel antenna for body MRI at 10.5 Tesla. Furthermore, Bart contributed to a standardized method that is used for safety assessment of RF coils in the University Medical Center Utrecht and he was a member of the ISMRM working group on Best Practices for Safety Testing of Experimental RF Hardware. In 2018, Bart joined the startup Wavetronica as a scientific advisor.

After completing his PhD in 2020, he is now doing a Postdoc in the computational imaging group, focusing on RF safety of implants in MRI and on detection of physiological motion with wearable RF sensors.
